I love spring! Everything feels so alive and hopeful! A clean slate to start anew. I sense the awakening in my backyard where new buds bloom daily, fresh scent of orange blossoms whiffle by, birds chirp and gather by the pond and I kid you not, I felt like the grass grew a few inches overnight. No one says it better than Lady Bird Johnson - where flowers bloom, so does hope.
This month, I'm introducing Kuih Koci, a banana leaf wrapped packet of glutinous rice ball filled with grated coconut. Black glutinous rice flour contributes to the dark purple hue while the white coconut cream drizzle balances the sweetness from gula melaka (palm sugar) and enhances the coconut aroma. It is tender, chewy, sticky, nutty and sweet all in one bite. If you love coconut, you have to try this kuih.
Along with Kuih Koci, this month's sweet box, an ode to coconut is gluten, dairy and nut free. It includes
- Kuih Talam (Tray Cake) A sweet layer of springy pandan coupled with a salty layer of soft coconut cream for those who appreciate the delicate balance of sweet and savory in every bite
- Pulut Tekan (Pressed Sticky Rice) Steamed glutinous rice infused with coconut milk and butterfly pea flowers topped with smooth caramel kaya (coconut jam)

As always, fresh organic ingredients are used where available and no artificial coloring. Best for same day consumption.
Kuihs in Sweet Box can be refrigerated and gently reheated the next day by steaming or intermittent microwave heat until soft and warm.
Spiral Curry Puff can be store in the fridge and reheat at 350F in the oven for 5 minutes or until heated through.
Pandan Chiffon Cake can be stored in air tight container at room temperature and best consumed within 3 days.
