To Trust Or Not To Trust

We recently watched Disney's latest animation movie, Raya and the Last Dragon. My heart filled with pride in seeing the familiar architectural, costume and cultural details and my eyes lit up every time a recognizable food item comes on screen; I noticed pandan leaves, longan, mangosteen, lemongrass, shrimp paste and the whole family exclaimed when we spotted durian!

We thoroughly enjoyed the movie, not just because of the Southeast Asian elements but more importantly, its timely message on the complex theme of trust that is integral in bringing communities together. How do we learn to trust in today's divided world? Watch the movie and celebrate Raya's message of trust and solidarity with this month's treats that are equally popular in our neighboring countries such as Singapore and Indonesia.

Jemput Jemput or Cekodok (mashed banana fritter), what it lacks in looks, it more than makes up for in taste and texture with beautifully caramelized exterior that is crispy, yielding to a soft and moist interior of banana sweetness.
Sweet Potato Onde Onde (glutinous rice ball), this variation of the traditional onde onde, is more tender and equally delicious with a boost of color and the same pop of sweet surprise from gula melaka (palm sugar).
Seri Muka (glutinous rice custard cake), two layered kuih with a base layer of coconut saturated glutinous rice topped with fragrant pandan egg custard that is delightfully decadent
Karipap Pusing (spiral curry puff), flaky crispy layers deep fried to golden perfection with bold tasty flavors of comforting curried potatoes.

As always, fresh organic ingredients are used where available and no artificial coloring. Best for same day consumption. Curry Puff can be stored in airtight container for 2 days and reheated in toaster oven.
