Are we there yet? The persistent question from my ten year old throughout our recent East Coast road trip from Miami to New York. The weather was mostly hot and humid with the occasional late afternoon rain. More than anything else, he was keen to jump into the pool at our next hotel.
For me, traveling is about the discoveries and connections that I make. Not just the discovery of something that tickles my taste buds or a place that inspires, but an opportunity to reconnect with myself. I hope you get to do some of that yourself this summer.
For this month's new kuih on the block, let's give a warm welcome to Pulut Inti. It's sticky rice topped with sweetened shredded coconut wrapped in banana leaf, a delicious combination that is decadent, moist and aromatic - one of my personal favorite as a child and still is.
To celebrate July 4th, let's put some red, white and blue broad stripes and bright stars in our box with Kuih Lapis (steamed layer cake) and Butterfly Pea Flower Onde Onde (glutinous rice ball dumpling with palm sugar lava).
INGREDIENTS
As always, fresh organic ingredients are used where available and no artificial coloring. Best for same day consumption.
Kuih Box items and Pulut Panggang can stored chilled in airtight container and gently reheated the next day by steaming or intermittent microwave heat until soft and warm
Spiral Curry Puff can be stored chilled in airtight container. Consume or freeze within 3 days. Reheat at 350 F for 5 mins (20 mins if frozen) or until heated through
Pandan Chiffon Cake can be stored in air tight container at room temperature and best consumed within 5 days.
